Manipur Police gets first ‘Cycle Patrol Unit’

KAKCHING: Manipur police department on Monday introduced its “Cycle Patrol Unit”, a step towards strengthening the relationship with the community and to enhance public friendly policing. 
The Cycle Patrol Unit was introduced at Kakching district police where 60 bicycles were allotted to three police stations and seven outposts.
The aim of launching the unit was to localize police coverage and bring the police closer in touch with the community, Kakching district police SP Yengkhom Victoria said.
She asserted that the patrol unit will not only bring the police and public closer but also improve the infrastructure of the police department and welfare of the personnel.
State police IGP (zone-I) Clay Khongsai officially launched the unit at a simple function held at the Kakching police station.
The IGP said that the state police department introduced the unit as part of community policing.
He further said establishing the cycle unit will not only save fuel considering the constraints in the police department but is also good for the environment and police personnel.
Khongsai also congratulated the SP for taking the initiative and at the same time said, “It is important to focus on the success of the initiative taken up by the district SP.”
District police officials reported that 120 bicycles have been allotted for patrolling in Kakching district and in the first phase 60 cycles were allotted to police stations at Sugnu, Kakching and Pallel of the district including outposts at Singtam, Wangoo Lamkhai, Umathel, Langmeidong, Sekmaijin and Kakching R/L (M/W).
Others who attended the event were DIG (range-2) K Radhashyam Singh, DC of the district Neilenthang Telien, SPs of Thoubal and Tengnoupal, district police.
